Abstract

Dengue fever is an acute febrile illness caused by dengue virus infection and is transmitted by mosquitoes. Dengue viruses are composed of four serotypes and have different clinical features and severity depending on the serotype. Korea is not yet an endemic area of dengue fever, but the number of imported dengue cases are increasing due to the increase in the number of international travelers. We report a case of dengue fever due to dengue virus-1 with severe thrombocytopenia in a 10-year-old boy who was hospitalized due to fever and rash after a trip to the Philippines.
